Stumbled upon this through Pinterest (a site I refuse to use, never-the-mind- how often I actually use it). He reminds me of an old teacher, Matt Faulkner, who I loved as a student. I think the best children’s book artists are ones who have such an exemplary traditional artist, but have still a distinctive style to be interesting to a child. These drawings are completely accurate, while being magical and interesting to child and adult both. (Since it is an adult who is often buying and/or reading with their child, being able to interest the adult in your art is still very important as a children’s book artist, I believe). Leonardo also works as an editorial artist, for such publications as MAD magazine.
This is a great find! Makes me want to break out the watercolors, again….
