Started by Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, a brother and sister illustration duo who has rocked the illustration world for many years now, They Draw and Travel is a simple community based website. You can draw a map (and this word is used fairly loosely here) of a city, place, market, museum, etc and submit it to the site for show. Highlighting often things you would never find in a guidebook (which can be for better or worse…!), the images are a refreshing way to look at traveling.
But, you can find more about them and their mission on the website – I fear I can’t do it as much justice s simply browsing the site suggests.
However, the overall style of the illustrations found there are entirely fantastic. It is a bit hard to do an aesthetic critique of the work, since it is done by seemingly hundreds of artists, but of all the multitudes of images I browsed there were only a handful I didn’t like.
Oh, and for those of you who can’t stop drawing what you are eating RIGHT NOW: http://www.theydrawandcook.com/, their sister website “They Draw and Cook”.
